Curator Alison Weld of the New Jersey State Museum describes Mitchell's work as, "honoring the immaterial through the restrained, plastic language of sculpture. His regard for both nature and the history of art is revealed in the process of fabrication-through construction and its alteration, marking and remarking, carving and incising in an additive and subtractive process."
